Warren Hastings (1732-1818), the
first Governor-General of India, was born in Churchill in what
is now a private house, Hastings House, on Hastings Hill. He died in the nearby hamlet of Daylesford. The Heritage Centre exhibition covers his formative education and joining of the East India Company in which he progressed. He became the first Governor-General of India in 1773.
The exhibition details the events
that led to his impeachment in 1787 and his trial which lasted
seven years, resulting in acquittal.
